Mark Lewanski is an engineer, artist, inventor and founder of Glassboxguy Studio, which he launched in 2000 with the goal of revitalizing the art of stained glass. Ultimately, he had become a creative vanguard in the field with his trademark glass boxes, as seen pictured above, and mosaic mirrors bought and appreciated by thousands of art lovers worldwide.
Lewanski’s recent projects include glass weaving and woven glass vessels and sculpture, as well as beautiful, vibrant architectural lighting.
He works from his downtown studio in the charming riverside town of Portland, Michigan, with his wife, Mary and two children.
“I would like to think that I am one part Leonardo da Vinci, one part Thomas Edison and one part Dale Chiluly. Artistically, I am constantly seeking to go in new directions and I love to invent new techniques and styles, and work with a talented group of craftspeople to turn ideas into reality. I was trained as an engineer, but was never able to engineer, in earnest, working for industry. In 1999, I left the mainstream workforce behind forever, and am now embroiled in the constant excitement and struggle of the life of a full-time artist.”
Lewanski’s studio is a hotbed of creative energy; growing, morphing, kindling collaborations with the like-minded individuals with passions and aesthetics akin to his own.
