Matt Dyszkiewicz is primarily a traditional stone whell engraver who was taught the craft by his father in Warsaw, Poland. After coming to Canada and taking glass blowing courses at Sheridan College, he started to teach engraving techniques.

With blowing his own glass, Matt’s approach to engraving has changed. The two areas most affected by this new approach are color and form. Traditional stone wheel engravers usually work with clear glass and simple forms, therefore designs hardly expand beyond geometric and floral patterns, but with his now modernized approach to color and form, there are no limits to engraving. Matt’s work maintains the single most important aspect of stone wheel engraving – the optics.

His latest work,¬†“Systems & Mechanisms” Series, “Architectural Birds” Series, and “Battle Horse” Series,¬†he explores the similarities between nature and the human mechanical world that is full of different technologies.
